The iPad Fails Again: No Flash
By ibbarkingmad
The image on the left was the original promotion picture. The image on the right is what Apple is using now. This means no flash on any Apple mobile device.
Apple's Huge Blunder
I have been very critical of the Apple iPad. It looks like a good device, but I do have some criticisms which I cover in another article. This article is more focused on a specific failure that is very stupid on Apple's part.
During Steve Job’s demonstration of the iPad, tons of broken flash
elements were shown. Apple is very good at revolutionizing the industry, but some times going rogue is really stupid, especially when the majority of large web sites on the World Wide Web is using flash on their sites.Sites such as Hulu depend upon flash, while other sites such as Facebook use it for applications and games. So here comes Apple, introducing a web tablet that they make seem like a computer, but is really just a over sized iPod Touch. The biggest selling point of this device is that it is a web device. Then, to add insult to injury, Apple fails to incorporate this vital program capability into the device. This device has not even gotten out of the starting gate and already it is falling on its face.
Will the iPad Succeed?
Knowing Apple, there is a very large likelihood that Apple will very slowly come to the conclusion to add flash or a similar program into their devices. If we are lucky, maybe in 5 years. There will be the die hard Apple fans who will spend the fortune necessary to get the iPad and then like with their Mac's they will flaunt their device and pretend that because they paid the Apple tax that that makes them a better person some how. Then there are the poor people who have no clue about these failings and will get them because of the ass holes mentioned above. So, the iPad is not likely to fail.
The positive results of this is that when other companies get around to making alternate device options that will be more open than the iPad. Hopefully they will be loaded with Windows Mobile, Android, Linux or even Windows 7. I am personally in favor of the latter two because then the tablet "whatever" would be a computer rather then a wanna be computer like the iPad.
September 2011 Update
Gasp! There is finally some rudimentary support for flash on iPhone & iPad. The update only supports streaming video, not flash based games. Additionally, the support comes from Adobe, not from Apple.

First off, the iPad is not a tablet PC. Affordable is laughable considering that the starting model is $499. My netbook I an using right now was half that price is 11 times the memory and it can run Flash. I do not think that it will not sell, it will. But the fact of the matter is when you are marketing something that is as "revolutionary" as the iPad and it cannot run flash. That is like releasing a smart phone that cannot sent picture messages. Oh wait, Apple did that too. The iPhone hasn't been able to send picture messages until last October.
ibbarkingmad, the iPad is launched under the tablet pc catagory and $499 is reasonable price and i donno why its laughable
The iPad is not a computer. It lacks the independence of a computer and the amount of memory included for the price is ridiculous. That being said, it is opening a new market and will encourage other companies to develop products that will be better and in turn will force Apple to do the same. Before commenting further, I would like to read my original article which is linked below. The flash thing is a recent development and so I wrote this hub as an appendix to the other.

It is definitely a flaw but its hard for me to see apple not selling a ton of these with their streak.
